Also the guitars can be held in place at the neck between the dowels if needed (wind, unruly hands, kids, need to move in a hurry). Also a tarp or plastic can be easily draped over if inclement weather approaches.

You know, if you really wanted to, you could cut the slots in the 1x4 and put the dowels a little closer, close the gap between the guitars and have them face right or left instead of outward. That way you can get more per stand. Perhaps up to 5 or 6. Hmmmm. I might'a just have'ta make me one like that.
