I believe that in several places in europe such instruments were built. I found one more video-in descriptions they also mention the bladder violin history.

yep,pigs bladder. very first instruments were probably without fingerboard. therfore melodies could not been played-instrument was for accompaniment.

later fingerboards were added. The luthier told that there were 1-4 string versions, but he thinks 1 string is most rational as it is not easy to keep several strings in tune on bladder :)

Who the heck would ever come up with the idea to build one of those . I saw what looked like a carved pigs head on the head . I'm assuming pigs bladder ?  Thanks for the share.
