Hi I'm Joe and I've been building and playing CBGs since feb of 08. I did build one canjo from a Christmas cookies can in feb of 07, but i didn't know where to get cigar boxes until feb of 08 and then the habit went out of control, and i just kept buildin' em. Mine are non- too- technical or refined as of yet, but i try to do something a little "better" each time. People keep wanting ones that are like standard neck through peizo deals, so i spend a lot of time building on those. Maybe in 2011 i'll branch out more and start experimenting with new techniques and designs. (Start building for myself again) I'm also itchin to play and record more. Multitracking perhaps, instaed of cellphone recoding like you hear on my page.        Happy New Year Nation!       Joe

Hello! MAN, I LOVE YOUR GUITARS AND MUSIC!!! My name is Kevin M. Kraft, founder of the annual Kansas City Cigar Box Guitar Festival. This year's event will take place on August 26th, and once again I am accepting cigar box guitars and cigar box guitar-related donation, which will be raffled off during the festival, the proceeds to benefit Kansas City's Blues in the Schools program. If you have a guitar, accessory, CD, DVD--anything related to cigar box guitars that you would like to donate, please contact me at the Cigar Box Nation or email me at kevinmkraft@juno.com  to learn where to send it.

Thanks for you time and consideration.

Thanks for the complements. It looks like you have your share of nice builds, too. You do a lot more artistic finishing work than I do, I tend to leave mine plain. I wouldn't be nowhere a good today making my instruments without the likes of the CBN community. Thats's where I get most of my inspiration.

Hi Joe.

Looks like you made a real score on that partially built violin. I'm also considering building a cigar box guitar based on what Diane in Chiacago and some of the other members of CBN have done. I am not familiar with the instrument, so a bit of research will be needed. I also will be traveling to the States this summer for not quite 3 months. One of my objectives will be to acquire parts that I have a hard time finding in China. This time I'll also be looking out for fiddle parts. I have family in Houston, and have on a few occasions visited Austin.

Well, keep us informed on how your new violin project works out. Progress photos would be great.

Hey Joe,

Glad to have you for a nation friend.  Good luck and wishes on the video.  I use my several year old ($70.00 then) Koday easy share.  I have an IPod, and it takes videos, but I have not really learned how to do it well.

Many thanks for the fret tips.

Checkin out your pics, truely inspiring. Love your adventurous way of constructing bridge, tailpiece, nut, all of it. Great photos too, with all the different color leaves on the ground, and the woodpile. Makes me nostalgic for my childhood in New England. Rock on dude, Peace, Joe"
