Cheap pickup for mandolin?

Looking for ideas on adding a pickup of some kind to my mandolin. Problem is that I only have $50 invested in the mandolin so I'm looking for something as inexpensive as possible. I would really prefer a mag pup for better output and control. I've thought about maybe using a bass guitar pickup but I'm unsure how to install it with no access to the insides of the mando. Another option I pondered was using a "floating" mini humbucker like the type used on some jazz guitars but not sure if that…See More

Hi Tom,

I sent you a message. Not sure if I did it right or not. Just wanted to talk a bit more about your Big Bottom Bass. I may be interested in buying it.

Thanks,

Gary

Thanks, Tom.  The bass sounds good and seems to have good intonation.  I need a real bass player to check it out.

Tom,

Got my fretless 3 string, 30 inch bass done.  Seems okay to good.  Need to get with a bass player friend to have him tell me what it needs to improve it.  Thanks!

Hi Tom,  Nice to have you for a nation friend.  I looked at your photos and vids and remembered commenting on your 'Brothers' photo.   Good vids, Nasty is very good.  Your big bottom 3 string bass interests me as I am working on a 30 inch scale 3 string bass.  I don't know much about basses....  Fun to see your back in the day photo and to see you now.

Hey Tom, I was checking out the builds, nice work.

I have always craved something with that vintage Tele "twang". How does your version sound, in comparo?

Hi Mr. Lanford!

Just to say that I love your music, such a wonderful voice, and a awesome songwriting, well balanced with groove, reminds me the southern rock of Little Feat.
Looking at your new profile picture, I bet you were a rocker in your youth and you belonged to a great rock band.
Thanks for sharing Mr. Lanford!

Cheers,

Fernando
