Headstock thickness

Hi I need to reduce head thickness to take machine heads is there any difference taking it from the top or underside of the head or doesnt it matter ? Thanks

Hi can anyone advise me on fitting the neck on the outside of the box I haven't done it but I've seen it and think it looks good thanks
