Hard times?

"That is a great video with a fun build I think its on page 8 of my pictures. It has some really nice binding on the neck... It sounded good because I thinned the top to help in the tone department. Of course there is no selling Keni's hands…"

Advise for beginners....

From Ira Glass . . .

“What nobody tells people who are beginners — and I really wish someone had told this to me . . . is that all of us who do creative work, we get into it because we have good taste. But there is this gap. For the first couple years you make stuff, and it’s just not that good. It’s trying to be good, it has potential, but it’s not. But your taste, the thing that got you into the game, is still killer. And your taste is why your work disappoints you. A lot of people…

Reso Sound test

Posted on April 18, 2011 at 12:22am 8 Comments

So I have built a number of cigar box resonators. Last Friday I had a chance to meet Husky Burnette and get his impressions of some of my builds. (Thanks Reverend Nix) What was cool for me is we sat around for a while with a number of my builds, he played them and we would talk. I think I had three resonators there one of them had a piezo in it. Husky had his amp in the car so I asked if he would try it out and let me know what he thought. Here is a clip when he first plugged in.…

Jim,
Thanks for accepting. I just saw the resonator you made for Mike Telzrow. It's beautiful and probably sounds amazing. I hope to own one someday!
Cheers,

Do you know of any local clubs or groups that get together to share, jam and just hang out?

I build a variety of string instruments, do lathe turning and wood carving. I'm currently working on an "A" style (stick dulcimer) 3 string fretless slide guitar made out of old growth "sinker" cypress. I love that wood, it has a unique mellow (but not flat) resonance. It is a hollow body acoustic/peizoelectric beast with a 25 inch scale length. I'm going to try mounting bass strings on it.

Hi Jim.  Thanks for the input on my Rocky Patel box thread.  I'm interested in tackling a resonator in the near future as well.
