Circle Of Fifths

Posted on August 16, 2011 at 9:48am 4 Comments

I ran across a good (and free) printable circle of fifths on www.tikiking.com

It prints out at roughly 3.5 inches (90mm), so it's a good size to toss in a case or gig bag.

Taken directly from the website:

The circle of fifths can be used for many things. To help with chord progressions, to determine the Key that a song is in, to determine the scale for that Key.

The "circle of fifths" is a term coined by German…

Fingerboard Software (And How I came To Find It)

Hi all,

I have promised to build my 9 year old nephew a guitar.

I was showing The Nation to some relatives during our family Christmas gathering, and Jake got hooked.

When Jake was 5, he tangled with a piece of lawn equipment and lost his left hand and half his left forearm.

He has decided he doesn't want to learn to strum with the nub..... he wants to play slide and be able to finger pick.

Well, I happened to have a bottleneck with me, and (don't ask why) some aluminum… Continue

An introduction, of sorts

Posted on November 22, 2009 at 7:32pm 2 Comments

I currently own 2 acoustic and 3 electric guitars, 1 electric bass guitar, 1 fiddle, a banjo, 2 autoharps, 1 mandolin, a few harmonicas, a melodica, 2 old electronic keyboards, an electric piano, and a Peruvian ocarina. I am almost finished building a lap steel using wood from my late Great Grandfather's house.

*Hopefully* I will finish that in the next day or two and finally start on a CGB.

I've been playing guitar for a little over 30 years, and making horrendous noises on… Continue

Hi Jeff,

I emailed the fellow that had been hosting the FolkInfo.org website and he says he's working with a couple of other parties to see if they can host his ABC Converter on their web servers. He said He'd let me know what grows out of these two projects. So, with any luck we'll be seeing it again in the near future. Thanks again for giving me the idea of emailing him.

Thanks for the idea of emailing "jonbanjo" the guy who had "owned" Folkinfo.org. I have emailed him, and we'll see what his ideas may be for hosting his superior ABC Converter on an alternate web site, or for letting us have the code to see what we can do with it.

I have now worked out how to remove those said comments and they have now been deleted - I had not intended on causing hassel or an argument.

I'm am sorry for ranting on about frets and I if knew how I would remove my comments - I didn't mean what I said and I know that Cigar Box Nation is not the right place for an argument.
