Handmade Music Factory - Not for the God-fearing

Posted on March 6, 2012 at 10:46am 18 Comments

Wow! I've just read a review of Mike Orr's Handmade Music Factory on http://www.southerngospelblog.com/archives/14370, and while it's a positive review, I was amazed to read this paragraph:

" This book has much of value to a Christian homeschooling audience, but would require several edits. Two handmade guitars involving bedpans as resonators are given names playing off of words not used in polite company. Each name is…

Yuri Landman's Triochord workshop

Posted on March 2, 2012 at 6:24pm 6 Comments

A friend of mine who knows I like to dabble in making my own guitars has brought my attention to a Dutch feller called Yuri Landman. He's an experimental performer and instrument maker, and he's holding a workshop only 15 miles from me in Bradford. During the workshop he will demonstrate making an instrument he calls a Triochord which everyone will make and get to take home.…

Bloodshot Records

Posted on February 11, 2012 at 8:46am 5 Comments

To all the good folks of the Nation,

Through a message from Uncle John, where he brought my attention to the marvelous Justin Townes Earle, I was moved to bore him about my love of Bloodshot Records. Whilst reminiscing and re-listening to some of the artists and music they've released over the last 15 or so years, I thought some of you guys on the Nation, if you were unfamiliar with the label, might find some interest in their stable of artists. So, if Uncle John doesn't mind, I…

Hello mate,

It was a real pleasure meeting you and your other half too.  You're a real gentleman and it was a shame you weren't around Saturday for some more fun.  Please apologise to your missus for talking rambling shit to her outside!  See you next year or earlier if we get this northern/yorkshire group meeting off the ground

I found that too on the Cohiba one I made for my mate. I just took my time with it (nearly a week!), Once I had the idea mapped out in my head though, I felt better to soldier on, even thogh it was finished literally two days before fathers day! A neighbor across the road saw me working on and playing a CBG in my garage and has asked me to build him one for his son's birthday too! He's even bought a cigar box for it! As it goes my arm is in a cast until mid-August so I'm cramming as much knowledge as possible til then. Busy times ahead methinks. Get cracking with your comission, with two builds under your belt you'll be reet.
