"Did you ever finish this project?  Pics?  Those Kala bass ukes sound awesome!  Have been thinking about making a cbg acoustic bass guitar for a while, but that bass uke is way to cool.  May need to go that route.  Would love…"

"For the guys looking for bigger boxes for basses, try the wooden silverware trays that people keep the "good silver" in. They are a good size if you can find one that doesn't have a pull out drawer. I picked mine up at a junk store…"

David West commented on Andy Stone's group Cigar Box Ukulele
"Interesting day today. I finished up a baritone ukulele cbg. I was making it for the cigar smoking lounge where I have been getting my cigar boxes. I took it in to show them...it was done except for the oil finish. A customer asked how much I sell…"

David West replied to Brian Lemin's discussion Bass Ukes Ideas for specs in the group Cigar Box Ukulele
"I have been playing with ideas about volume in my head. The standard ukulele/guitar construction has the strings very much parallel to the body, with a small angle to where the strings attach to the body. The physics of that connection don't…"

"Check out the U-bass by RoadToad/Kala. It isn't a cigar box, but looking at it will give you the ideas you need for building the a CigarBox bass. I am currently building two. One is a silverware storage box...bigger than a cigar box, but will…"

Bass instruments

"The strings for the Kala Ubass are very stretchy Urathane. They are expensive, but sound great, and at a 20" scale make the true double bass notes. Look up the UBass on youtube. I want one, but the $500 price tag has me making my own."

"I approve. I am currently working on two basses. I have the urathane strings from the Kala U-bass. How deep a note are you able to get from the metal strings and the short scale? I will be using a 25.5 inch guitar scale, but will get the low octive…"

David West replied to Alan Roberts's discussion New things you can do with a guitar fret template in the group Scale Lengths, etc.
"You can use the template you have to make many other scales. For any musical instrument scale, the 12th fret is exactly 1/2 the distance from the nut to the bridge. If you put a capo on any fret, it acts as a new nut...count up 12 frets...that is…"

David West replied to Patrick Breton's discussion Need advice on a 4 string please !!!
"The tuning you are talking about is standard tuning for a baritone ukulele. It should be no problem. Plus, go to Baritone Uku chord chart sites and you will be able to figure out any additional chords that you find you need. Good Luck, Dave "
