"Those Padron boxes always seem to sound good acoustically. Nice build! I like the headstock, and the double hinge tailpiece. How many people have a footed bridge lying around the house?"

Just showing off: My new CBG

Hi there, just wanted to celebrate the completion of my first CBG build by posting a few photos here! This fine instrument features a no-name P90 pickup, and was built entirely with stuff I had lying around the house - except for the neck, which I got from C.B. Gitty. It was designed to be amplified, and sounds pretty gnarly and raucous when plugged into one of my CB amps. And it doesn't sound terrible unplugged, surprisingly. So here she is - what do you think?…See More

" I think the mojo factor comes into play on this one. The cold plastic toy amps will never compare to the handmade amp. I unfortunately, spend around 80.00 to build my cigar box amps. The speaker I use is a Jensen that cost 26.00 alone. But oh…"

"Dave, There are people here who purchase a $20-$40 Dano Honeytone purely to rip the guts out to place in a cigar box (not that there's anything wrong with that). I assume you are soldering your own circuitry, based on something like the LM386…"

How much would you pay for a cigar box amplifier?

Probably like many folks here, I enjoy building stuff, but find my myself in the position of: well, how many cigar box amps do I really need for myself? So naturally, the mind turns to thoughts of selling some of the stuff I build. Otherwise, I will wind up with a house full of little amplifiers. My question to you guys is: how much do you think is a fair price for a cigar box amp? Regardless of how much I spend to build one, that is.If a CBamp is small and cute, and sits in a store next to…See More

Dave replied to Mark Mowatt-Wilson's discussion Neck and fingerboard finishes
"Tru-Oil is the greatest, for maple necks and other woods that need a hard, glossy surface. And it is cheap and easy to use. It's technically a varnish, I believe. For rosewood and ebony fingerboards, plain old mineral oil (what mom gave you to…"

Dave replied to Dave's discussion Cigar Box Amplifier grounding and power options
"In case anyone is wondering, I received some fairly complete responses on another forum (TDPRI), and eventually wound up with this diagram. The only addition to this schematic would be an on/off switch for the delay unit. "
