"The strings are usually strummed while the left hand  mutes those that you don't want to vibrate. Definitely a unique sound!  You can actually find a lot of people playing them on youtube."

"It looks like a neat instrument. How is this played?  Maybe plucked like a harp or played with a pick like a guitar? It vaguely looks like a Greek lyre. -Rand."

Baritone a la fender bass VI

Hi all,I just joined up and am looking forward to building some instruments!  I thought I might start with a 3 or 4 string baritone strung with strings for a Fender bass VI (or Jaguar Baritone).  Any sugestions on pickups, tuning, which strings out of the 6-string set to use, etc.?  I'm kind of going for a Robert Smith /Cure vibe with a little Morphine (the band, not the drug:)) mixed in. Thanks!See More

anywho. glad you're onboard with CBG. I made my first CBG from an unfinished, super light basswood cheapo 'cigar/jewelry box' from a crafts store, came out way better than expected, but now have been building my own boxes...so not sure if they count as CBGs...i still call them that though.

Digging on your lyre-style build. I've been planning a harp type thing, but thought I'd build the whole harp neck as a soundboard (or with chambers, etc) and have a separate neck for a 2 or 3 string to do 'lead/melody' lines on. I don't know. But seeing yours and other alt folk builds gets me so filled with ideas...bumming I can't just build them for a living (although there's an idea)

peace to you --- and will look for more of your builds later. ET
