Uke 1

I bought a "cigar box" at a craft store and used a rub on transfer paper for the design. The finger board is oak and neck is poplar both purchased a my local Lowes. I used shellac for the finish as it dries really fast and I am very impatient.

The boxes for my first three ukes are all the same and the material is pretty thin.

Jillian, that's kind of interesting. I would have expected a noticeable difference, but never tried converting a through neck to a bolt on.

Jillian.... what about the top? Maybe the material is too thick...... maybe it's tone deaf..... yeah maybe it's tone deaf wood..... maybe the string things are nervous or something like that. I hope this helps, I like the sound holes as they are.

Thanks Chuck.  After the success with two more, I rebuilt this one.  It had through neck but now it is bolted one.  It did not change the tone as much as I thought it would.  This suggests to me that the sound holes have more to do with it.

Corbie,

Thanks so much.  They were a pain to cut as I don't have the right tools.  I drilled some holes to start them and tried my dremel but it just started to walk all over the place.  Then I switched to an exacto knife.  Long, hard work but in the end it, I got what I wanted (mostly)..

Jillian..... I just love the sound holes around the Sun. Nice work. At least you got a finish on it..... I'm satisfied with out so I can play them. ( I'll work on this )
