Tom, thanks for the nice note. There are some in process photos of the lap steel as well as the two other laps I've made. Just go to my pictures and look through my stuff. This one is a 23 inch scale which is directly from my model. This is modeled after a 30's Regal lap steel. I have the old carcass of one to work from. I just laid the old Regal on my plank of Walnut and traced it. I got two body blanks out of one 2x10 plank. The 23 scale length is nice for steel playing as it is easy to do the slant chords on it. Longer lengths like 25 1/2 are harder to do the slants. I tune to standard dobro (DBG,DBG). I've got a great new book with lots of other steel tunings. Andy Volk, Lap Steel Guitar. Magnatone & Airline made some great steels. Lucky guy. Maybe copy one for starters.... Dave

absolutely beautiful! - please post some "in progress" building photos if available. I've been wanting to build something very similar and would love some ideas. What is the scale length? I've been wanting to build one in the 25" range. I have a couple of lap steels (Magnatone & Airline) which are both very cool, but both are 22" scale and I'd something a little longer for different tunings.Thanks in adavance!

Thanks James, somehow, my spouse lets me do it. I totally trash the table in a build, but clean up when it's done. However, I just got a $175 wood workbench at our local Freight and Tool. Assembly required. It will go right next to me as I write. I'll have 40 ukuleles hanging over my head while I work. I like that. And a window to squirrel world. It took cleaning out a spot for it which was all stuff belonging to my spouse. She's the best, very supportive.
