This is a sad tale of a project that didn't make it. Great care was taken and best materials used. The result is a real dog.
Not long after finishing, the neck slowly started bending up, making the thing unplayable. I've cranked it back and put a brace where the neck meets the body. No luck.
I'm going to strip it down for the reuseable parts, but the rest goes to the recycle bin.
Can't win 'em all.

True.  I've had good luck with several wood glues.   Titebond is a popular one in the CBG world.  I do not know if you can get it over there.

Thanks John for your advice regarding extending the strengthening piece to form a heel. Makes a lot o sense.

BTW my Dad's other piece of advice (other that stay away from wild women) was to learn how to fix it when things don't quite go right. That glue I used has gone in the trash and I've bought a fresh bottle. No sense in being penny wise and pound foolish.

LOL, on your dad's advice.  But good advice too.   My dad said, a good carpenter is one who can hide his mistakes.  Hunh.   Glue is usually strong.  Glue and clamp or glue and screw and give it 24 hours if you can before string pressure.

When you get the neck thin through the box (trying for good acoustic sound), and you glue up a piece below to strengthen it, I think the best way is if it extends outside the box an inch or two to make a heel joint.

I've now stripped the thing down and found the major fault. Although the neck is 3/4" oak, it is less than 1/2" thick inside the box. I had laminated a piece of oak underneath for strengthening, but must have used poor glue. The glue line has broken (presumably under string tension) and the neck has bent - permanently.

My Father taught me when I was young when to walk away from a bad job, and this is one

Thanks for the kind comments Jerry and John.

Things like that happen to me  and to most of us.   I put them aside or even hide them until I an no longer pissed off.  Then I rebuild.   It sure looked good and looked thick enough from a side view.   Did you get too thin inside the box?   I like the head stock.

Darn you.  You put me in a building mood.

I am curious as to where it is bending and the neck construction.,.,I'm sure there is a way to remedy the situation.,.,what is the thickness of the neck, and is it glued to the lid.,.? she can be saved.,.,.!
