Looks great. Calls for more blue. Cardboard sounds good enough. Strengthen the corners and ends and like and to. Better yet, do just as John said. I've used a Minwax blue stain that might work well with the neck.

I've got a few of those boxes..nice looking but cardboard..I'm going to try and put a thin birch plywood liner under the top & round the sides.
