Very cool, you pulled it off nicely.

Karl, great idea. I now understand why the neck was so thick. I must try this on one of my future builds.

I have been experimenting with pieces of copperwire as fret but I was not satisfied with the result. You are an innovator. I also like the idea of using "scrap" material, this add's autenticity to every cbg an is a part of the cbg movement !

This is a brilliant idea, thank you for posting a picture of the back of the fret board. Genuinely ingenious! The fret board looks so cool.

Thank you all. The copper wire seems to be working nicely. Here's a shot of the back:

The wood is cut from a salvaged 2x4 that came out of a house built in 1910. I roughed it out with a table saw and then whittled it to size and shape. Wire is 18ga copper from scavenged electrical cable. I cut the slots for the wrapping using needle files. There are no slots on the front, so they might shift a bit. If that looks like a problem, I'll put a couple drops of superglue on each. I used a woodburning tool to make the fret dots on the topside and the face. Total cost of fretboard (less labor): $0. :-)

I love the look of your fretboard. I might be trying that myself in the future, how'd you do it?
