For tunings i like DADA or GDGD from high to low. I use lighter strings for my 4 stringers. This comes from a tenor banjo, strum stick background. For lap steels i like EBGEBE (Em). So for you on 4 string would be GEBE. And my favorite Hawaiian tuning, E,C#, A, F#, E, C#. For your 4 string that would be A, F#, E, C#. These last Em and A6 tunings are from high to low.

I'm not sure what pot to use for a bass pup. If it's a single coil, then the 250k should be right. Is there a difference if you went direct to the jack from the pup as to volume compared to the pup at "7". You'll get full volume without a pot. I don't think 100k would be right. 500ks are for humbuckers...

Thanks to everyone for your positive coments.  They really mean a lot to me.  It was a lot of fun building this, got to try a lot of "firsts" for me.  Now it's a matter of setting it up properly.  Since I don't play very well and have a tin ear, it's more difficult for me to know when it's "right".  The first thing I noticed when I plug it in is that the volume pot cuts off around what would be "7".  I'm using A250k pots for both with a .047ohm tone cap.  Should I try a A500k for the volume, or do I need to go in the other direction, say a A100k?  BTW - I did NOT wire it like an Esquire as I wrote in my blog.  I wasn't happy with the results, probably needed a better pup to work with.

As for luthier quality, well I appreciate that, but no. (LOL)  The photos don't show it, but I could have done a better job on filling the wood's pores on the box.  I have to get my impatience under control to better myself in that department.

The strings I'm using right now are .016, .022, .030, and .040, a bit heavier than I usually use.  I've tried a couple of tunings like eBGD and gDAE, but don't feel like I've hit the sweet spot yet.  Any suggestions?

Man that is too fancy for me, but at the same time it's beautiful and I would be thrilled if I'd built it.  Luthier quality.
