I think they are louder, I can't tell much difference in volume between the quart size and the gallon. It is hard to find a box big enough for the gallon lid. I like that if you pick close to the bridge you can get a different sound than farther up the neck.

I love it, is that a resonator, if so does it project sound better than an acoustic?
