Home made router table (just for doing necks)

Really just a board with the router attached, some blocks to allow it to be clamped in a small Workmate and a fence. The cutter I have has a larger radius than I want to end up with. I don't take it all the way in and then finish off by hand, so its only a roughing out device, but it still saves a lot of time. The centre line of the router spindle is marked on the table as is the direction in which the neck needs to go. The reason for having the cutter right at the end is that it can then do necks with scarfed head.

One bonus is that the only thing I bought was the router bit. Both the router and the piece of 1" ply were given to me. The rest of the wood was just offcuts and you don't need much.

Hi Juju, Hippy Chip and Dave.

Thanks a lot for the comments. One other advantage, at least with this router is that I don't seem to get covered in wood chippings to the same extent that I did when I tried it hand held. The router seems to direct the chips in a different direction.

All the best.

Nice invention. Has Stu Mac contacted you yet? I've got to try the router neck idea. It takes serious time to belt sand my necks round. Thanks for the how to....

nice setup!! I just use the belt sander, but I have an extra router and I like the bit at the end of the table--time to build a new toy!!!!

Hi Dan.

Yes it is. I think you put up the comment before I had the description written, but the idea is that I end up with something like five sides of an octagon where the diagonals are curved, then just round it off to an even half circle by hand.

Anyway, chat soon.
