Almost completed the headstock. Neck was an old pickaxe handle. Not sure of the type of wood, but it's pretty solid. Bought some leftover tuners from a music shop in town that's closing after 50yrs, which is a bit sad. Thought it best to arrange the headstock in a slotted style to keep rigidity. Might need a fatter bolt and potentially do a bit more sanding to help the strings clear the sides of slot. Still waiting on the antique cigar box coming from Germany and I need to get a practice amp sorted.

Cheers John. The plan was to add the retainer screws once I get the cigar box and strings mocked up. Maybe it'll work, maybe it won't, but good shout on stringing up the center string to the near tuner. If I run into problems I'll definitely give that a go.

The reason it's so close is because I needed to keep the distance from the bolt to the bridge the standard 25.5" and still leave enough of the tail for the strings to be drilled through, rather than use a hinge of some sort, since the wood is old and more likely to split if I use one of those. The box has really dictated the need for all this as it's the longer style cigar box as you can see.

I reckon it'll look awesome when their together. Bought it from etsy.com, but still on it's way to me, so a little longer before completion and some more pics :)  Thanks again for the tip.

Looks nice.   It is a short distance from nut to the near tuner.  It might (probably will) give you some troubles.  Might need some string guides -maybe just screws or brads to keep the strings in place.   I think the easiest thing would be to string the center string to the near tuner.  Straight shot.

Best wishes.  Half of CBG making is overcoming problems.
