Comment by Mark Lillo on July 2, 2012 at 4:40am The cedar and black walnut are both local (within 4 miles of me). It was cut by a neighbor with a woodmizer sawmill. I use a thickness planer to plane the sides to 3/32" and the top and back to 1/8". They are not bookmatched as I do not have a bandsaw capable of resawing that wide a board yet.
The parlor guitar I built for Harrison Withers did not have a preamp in it. That was his choice, He prefers to use an external preamp.
Comment by BenBob on July 2, 2012 at 2:00am Tell me about the wood... source? what did you have to do to thickness? Bookmatch?
Comment by BenBob on July 2, 2012 at 1:59am No no... I like it. Love it! The installation looks great. I just can't cut holes in guitars... wish I could. I have a classical with an EQ-7545R built-in (same preamp model gitty sells). It doesn't bother me at all preinstalled, and the pickup system is great, but when I think of one of my other guitars, even a cheap one, I balk at cutting the hole. I wanted to put one in a cheap parlor guitar I just got and chickened out - I put in the endpin preamp Gitty sells instead. It sounds great, but no volume/eq, and the battery holder was a hassle. Maybe you'll inspire me too get over it and put in the pickup I really wanted.
But if I ever built a guitar like this I know I couldn't do it! Maybe it's for the same reason I don't have any tattoos - Too permanent of an alteration to a beautiful body... ;-)
Comment by Mark Lillo on July 1, 2012 at 2:24pm BenBob,I made this one for myself and I wanted a preamp in it. It's really just that simple. If you don't like it that's ok with me, I am happy with how it turned out. Thanks for taking the time to comment.
Comment by BenBob on June 29, 2012 at 1:47pm Mark, how can you cut a pre-amp hole in the side of that guitar? I'm not scolding... I just can't do it. Not even with the cheap parlor I picked up for $60. I can't cut into it! How can you do it after bending and finishing that walnut yourself?
