Introducing the latest of Diddley Bros custom builds; The Black Beast.
This black and gold 3 string Cohiba cigar box guitar has a fully profiled maple through neck with an internal heel fixed from the back with 6 screws through a laminated European oak support inside the box.
The whole neck has been sprayed black with nitrocellulose paint and clear coat lacquer.
It has a 25" scale length from the brass jumbo zero fret down to the black perspex floating bridge. The action is good for both finger-style and slide playing.
There are17 brass frets along the European oak fingerboard with brass tack side dots and the gold leaf style transfer inlay dots are embedded in several layers of clear coat lacquer for durability.
The scarf jointed angled headstock has 3 in a line quality black machine heads. It's shape was a new design and looks spectacular.
The tail of the through neck was cut to reflect the angles of the headstock and has a layer of epoxy on its end in an attempt make the paint last a bit longer on the bottom when standing the guitar up.
There are 3 black 4mm eyelets in the front to prevent the string cutting into the maple and 3 standard black string ferrules in the back to allow more variable string options.
It was originally strung with the bottom 3 strings of a 7 string set to BFb then AEa. It was experimental and pretty good fun. However the uberfat B string kept slapping off the pick up.
It now has the bottom three strings from a six pack set of Rotosound flat wound strings it it tuned EBe and still has a fat bassy sound.
A lot of that sound can be attributed to the P90 soap-bar pickup. These pick-ups are pure beasts. This one has a beefy output of 9.3K ohms.
It is wired though a 250k Alpha audio taper volume pot to a front placed jack socket. This type of pot was chosen as it is apparently preferred by bass players who want the pot to roll off the highs quicker without losing too much volume.
