Unlike Original Flatpup, this "flatpup style" pickup has nails inside. This modification was posted by JP Swenson in 2012 after trying one of mine. I like the idea because it's so easy to make. Do it yourself :-)

Elmar,

Another idea for you: take the end pieces as is. Use 6 gauge copper wire, and run it through the holes where your nails currently (pun intended) reside. Run both end legs of that through an AS -104 transformer. Coat device in sellotape or black electrical tape (dang pic won't copy; I made a drawing of it!), then put in a metal cover. Wire up as normal.

Nice simplification Elmar, should reduce wire breakage a lot when winding, great stuff!

Thanks Dave :-) Yes , I am amazed too that all those variations including mine do a great job. Isn't that encouraging to make one yourself...? What else do you need?

Hi Elmar. I love your invention. I've used your pickups and Dan Sleeps variation in many builds. Now I've tried Blackwater Dan's similar flat pickup. It works great also. Thanks Elmar. You got the ball rolling. "Rock and Rolling"!

I've used 0.07mm wire in the beginning; it doesn't break so easily. As skills improved I use 0.05mm wire now. The building is easy, just do it. You see the bobbin? Wrap a coil on one side; then pass the wire to the other side and wind the second coil in opposite direction. Fix two connection wires to the backside and solder the ends of the copper wire. To protect it, wrap tape around. And brass or aluminium as housing. Go for it.

Thanks, Elmar!  So, what gauge wire?  And, what do you use for the case?  Is there any chance you could post a building plan?

... and lacquer copper wire of course.

Andy, not yet sure how to offer it. The matetial is easy to get: 6 nails, 3 thin neodym magnets, 1 t. cable, 2 plywood pieces to pass the nails, transparent tape to wrap the bobbin. That's basically all.
