2 x 4 and relic box

Sometimes I like to use a 2x4 scrap for the neck. This one and others are one piece and cut to shape.

They are thick enough to make neck bow less likely and I honestly think they give better acoustic sound.

I had fun using the torch on this one to blacken the wood. It had good sound, but a buzz in the big string. (tuned GDG). Some messing and a screw to hold down that string took away the buzz.

Comment by gary herget on November 29, 2015 at 9:07am: AGP# 2x4's are generally spruce, pine or fir which are all soft woods. Most tone woods are softer woods.

I've never done a one piece neck, it's now on the "to do list", is the 2x4 a hard or soft wood??.

Love the "Pyro" work, the torch is also one my favourite tools!
