First, a big thank you and congratulations to everyone who took part in this builder's challenge. There were so many GREAT builds submitted that I really did not envy the judges their jobs of having to pick their favorites! Also, a big Thank You to Dan Sleep for organizing and moderating the contest. He really did all the work on this, all I had to do was figure out prizes, flip a coin and write this post!
About the Judging
Instead of just picking their favorite 4, we had each of the judges assign a score to each entry on a scale of 1 to 10. We then tallied the scores to arrive at the top 4 entries. Many thanks to our judges! Click here to review who the judges for the contest were.
And of course, there was a tie...
Dan Sleep kept asking me what we'd do if there was a tie, and I kept saying "there won't be a tie, what are the chances?" So of course, there was a tie for first place. What I decided to do was flip a coin to determine the #1 and #2 spots. Here's the video of the coin toss and result:
So without further ado, here are the winners (click the name to view a picture of their winning build:

First Place ($250 prize pack): Nathan King
Second Place ($125 prize pack): Frederic Thorner
Third Place ($75 prize pack): K-Dawg
Fourth Place ($50 prize pack): Tom Bingham
Congratulations to the four of you on your great work! I will be sending each of you a direct message to get delivery info for your prize packs.
Once again thanks to everyone who took part in this contest. It was a great success and all of your participation is what really makes CBN a great community to be a part of!

Comment by Nathan King on January 16, 2012 at 12:07pm I am deeply honored to have been considered, and I can't even tell you how amazing it is to have my instrument sitting next to all those truly incredible instruments (especially those in the top three: Frederic, K-Dawg and Tom, you have got it going on!). Thanks to the judges, C.B. Gitty, Dan, and other organizers for making this happen, and thanks to the Nation for continuing to be a constant source of inspiration! Here's to 2012!
Comment by Tom Caneschi aka TC on January 16, 2012 at 11:03am All were very impressive builds I had to pass on this one but I'll be ready next time, congratulations to everyone that took part !!!
Comment by K-Dawg on January 15, 2012 at 10:09am I'd like to say Thank You to the judges, organizers, C.B. Gitty, Cigar Box Nation, and all the contributors that I was able to learn from in completing my first build. As a first time builder I submitted mostly for the fun of it without high expectations. When I discovered my guitar had been chosen 3rd place I was stunned. There are a number of other builds that I might have chosen even over my own. Congratulations to Nathan, Frederic, and Tom on their prize-winning entries.
Thanks again to everyone involved, I am deeply honored.
Comment by Chris Thomas on January 14, 2012 at 3:41am Well done to everyone who took part with a very special WELL DONE to the organisers!
