If you enjoy three string guitars, this is the place!

Hi Folks, This is the group to share everything about the three string guitar.

If you have had problems in the past playing regular guitar, try playing a three string guitar, they are much easier and the have a vintage sound that is super unique and easy to capture that old school blues sound.

There is another website on the net that has a lot more 3 string guitar information. Here is the link to the website  3-string-guitar.com

My first build-

Body is a 9 ball pool rack, neck is a field hockey stick.

Sound hole cover are two halves of a silver serviette rack. String base cover is the end plate from a silver after dinner mint rack. Bridge is a bone section from a bangle and pegs are from a bass guitar. The pickup is a speaker from one of those headphones handed out to listen to movies on aircraft, mounted directly under the sound hole.

Do whatever works for you. A piano player uses both hands. Woodwind players use both hands. It is all about how you train your hands to play.

to Richard Dean,

why would you force your self to learn right handed if you

are left handed ? makes no sense to me. the only drawback

to playing left handed is when you go to buy a guitar. if i walk

into a store, say guitar center for example, there's literaly

a thousand guitars hanging on the walls. if one or two of

them are lefties you're extremely lucky. there's nothing

wrong about playing left handed. how many times have

you had someone say "oh,you play backwards"? you don't.

of course, unless you're just holding a righty left handed.

stand by your hand,be proud of that paw from the south.

Haha don't tear your namesake apart Richard! All the best in your playing my friend.

Pick, you're a genius. Keep 'em intact and original but just have three (or less) strings on them! I might brainstorm that premise later. Thank you kindly sir.

I think you hit the nail on the head there BeetleJuice. I'm definitely of the klutz genus! You're right also, three strings is freedom for sure. It's why I turn to three strings to calm me down/chill me out after six has got on my nerves again lol

Thanks for the insight and help folks. I appreciate it.

if you have lots of 6 strings, how about sell them and just keep one for old times sake.

I think the reason 3 string guitars work so well, is not so much the tone ...but the fact that with the strings having a little more room in spacing, even a klutzy person can land on the string and still be half way hanging off of it ,yet it doesn't interfere with each of the other strings, so its more forgiving on the accuracy part

....and of corse the raunchy tone is flavorful too!....but even when I try to play 4 stringers to me even those are kinda hard to play and you have to be really carfelful with your picking and accuracy....a 3 string is really freedom

Thanks for having me in the hroup. Just making a statement then asking a question. I'm amazed daily, literally flabbergasted many days, at just what can be coaxed out of three strings. I've heard music that baffles me when I see it come from three strings and a stick in a box. I'm not that new to CBGs either as I'm coming up on two years since I first discovered their existence but I'm STILL wowed.

So, here's the question. Is it time to burn my sixers? Maybe "burn" is a bit dramatic but maybe dismantle and reuse the parts?

Six stresses me sooo much sometimes (usually because I can't play them I guess). When it does I turn to three for comfort and relaxation. Other times (usually when I have a breakthrough with learning) I love the extra accompaniment of more drone strings.

Wha'tch ya'll think? Burn/break 'em or keep 'em around even if just for decorative value?
