@ Peter hey you may have just solved a problem I was having - I have a foot pedal I can plug straight in! Thanks

I have actually thought about that too, but need to find the right box for it as well as finding a tin to make into a new Amp case.

Has anyone tried using one of thesse cheap megaphones in a 'stomp box'? It would be a completely self-contained unit - just switch on, put on the ground and stomp.

Anyone else here going to this year's Cambridge Folk Festival?

test strumming.mp3 Why let lack of ability get in the way of enthusiasm. It never stopped the Sex Pistols. As you can hear, it sounds a damned sight better than it did 2 days ago.

I have had a revelation.
I had been using the wrong strings which would explain why I couldn't get a decent tuning. Was using 4,5,6 off an old accoustic, and couldn't get all three strings to tune properly. Invested in a 2 sets of the cheapest metal acoustic strings the local guitar shop had in, and used 2,3,4.

Broke one no 3 string, but luckily had the spare. Was able to tune it to an open C using the tuner on my mobile phone. So I'm a happy bunny. Sounds quite rocky rather than bluesy. But can manage one chord off and on now, so I'm a third of the way toward being Status Quo. :)

Second build might go a little easier now I know what I'm doing.

Video of practice amp/megaphone. Please ignore the terrible noise. I can't play and I managed to break the tuner peg on the highest tuned string, so it tunes that far then slips.

Already planning mk2 based around a metal tin, so it should have a nice bright tone to it.

Well, it didn't take long.
Box one finished, it makes a noise but I made a few fundamental mistakes.

So box two us planned already. In local charity shop, found a murder mystery game in a metal biscuit tin type box. Was £1 so, box 2, the mystery machine is now planned.

Just spent two hours going round builders merchants, little DIY stockists and window makers to try and find some scrap hardwood offcuts for the neck. Even tried the local furniture restorers who dismantle damaged stuff that is beyond repair to use to repair decent stuff. Not one of them had anything hardwood.
Might need to use one of those hemlock staves again.

Cigar boxes...or whatever approximates to the spirit of the thing.

Camping wouldn't exactly be appropriate, I reckon the nearest bit of green is West Bromwich Albion Football Ground! I'll see if I can put together some info for accommodation ideas.

@carl - any chance of a video demo?

@Chickenbone - as my builds are not strictly cigar boxes, is it "anything goes"? Any ideas on accomodation as we were planning a camping thing but October will be way too cold!!!
