ok, this is probably out there somewhere but . since i started building these things i've been using d'addario strings, mainly because a set was left at our house after a party, and they sounded great. anyhoo i now have a bunch of 1st  2nd n 6th strings left over. i happen to like the strings i ve been using but cost is an issue so i bought 6 sets on line for about £2.20 a set but they are nowhere near as comfy to play and don't sound too good  how do you buy yours?in sets or singly.i hate waste

As ah don't build, jabes, ah just split sets. D'Addario ma favourite too BTW.

BUT: as you all BUILD,  the why not build the STRINGS!! Noo, before aw the wee cats  start hidin, and James comes tae ma door wi a baseball bat  (LOL), what ah'm suggestin is bits of fluff, threads from T shirts etc. A wee bit of weavin by the ladies, and ye are laughin. How about it? BTW ah'm gonna copyright thatidea, so hands aff ;)

that was no help at all ....;)

Hee hee ;)

Hi Jabes,

When I used to buy sets of Strings, I used to use Martin Strings, they are my favourite.

D`addario Strings Snap, if you change the tuning, that is my experience.

I now buy all of Strings from ebay as multi packs of singles, so something like 5 x(14) B Strings. I always look for the best deal on the day, that I am buying, deals on ebay can change daily.

I do not alway go for the cheapest item, if I have used a supplier before and had a good experience, I do not mind paying a bit more.

Cheers,

Col

i wasn't aware you could buy singles ...o.k i went too cheap i think on the sets ,anyway i like to set the guit up to find the position of the bridge . a bit tricky when using the rod piezos in a bridge- you don't wannabe drilling more holes than ness.......good health.

Stringsdirect.co.uk is the place to be for all your string needs. Singles, packs, multiple packs. You name it, they got it. Fast service.reasonable prices. Use them all the time.

Alan.

thanks for your replies, i've had a look at strings direct, they look the biz , thanks again

it has just occured to me that with a piezo powered guit i don't need to use electric guitar strings ....DOH!

I've bought Ernie Ball Slinkys almost exclusively due to their robust performance and longevity, x3 packs of six worked out the cheapest though i didn't use all the strings and ended up with a collection of spare 42's and 9's.

I found a seller who sells individual Custom gauge strings in packs of six or singly, i arrived at the following string gauges for my setup (25.5" scale, GDGb)...

32 - 24 - 16 - 13

thanks steve...
