Cigar Box Nation

#1 resource for Cigar Box Guitars. Free Plans, Music, Community

OK guys and gals....I'm getting my head organising round this years event.

It looks like it will be Birmingham /midlands, September / October...so I'm still trying to finalise the venue and date.

At this stage, are there any suggestions, requests or problems so that I can try and address them now before I get irrevocably committed to arrangements?

I'm looking at the same basic format as last year - an informal meetup for drinks and a meal on Friday night, Saturday workshops, open mic and an evening concert.  There are a few things that could be added - city centre busking, extended open mic. session or concert, more specific building workshops etc. Prices likely to remain the same as last year- £25.00 full ticket, £5.00 evening ticket.

The Cigar Box Nation group numbers are well up on last year (140 + compared to 80+ last year), so I'm anticipating a bigger turnout, but not so big as it will change the nature and vibe of the event - I still want to keep it intimate, lively....and above all FUN.

Looking forward to what you've got to pitch in....

Regards

Mr Chickenbone

Sounds fantastic John. Looking at the list I can't see much that I could volunteer for at the moment but I'll find something for the raffle though and if I can pluck up courage, I might have a crack at the open mic session.

Hi Olivier....we'll make sure you get up to Birmingham for Friday night...I hope you'll want to join a few of us for a drink, something to eat....and probably some music too. Hi Steve..yes 16th October. I've got a meeting next week to discuss details with the venue so I should have better idea of the activities and programme after than, and also arrangements for ticket sales etc.

I've already got one offer for graphics design..but thanks for the offer of help. I'm hoping to get the basic poster and event logo sorted and then look at tee shirts etc. There's a lot to be done yet!

More info on the 2010 UK Cigar Box Guitar Festival. I have met with the venue and sorted out some of the basic tech. stuff for staffing, PA etc. They have some great ideas for interactive multimedia music and video happenings, so there could be some really far out stuff happening! If you missed last year's inaugural event, don't miss it this time round..as it will be bigger and better than the first edition..and if you came last year, come and support it again and make it THE event of the year on the UK Cigar Box Guitar scene.

Anyhow here's the basic info.

Saturday 16th October
thePublic, West Bromwich B70 7PG

http://www.thepublic.com/

All day ticket £25.00. For this you get playing and building workshops/seminars & tuition, jam sessions, informal private open mic. session plus admission to evening gig.
All day event starts at 10.00am. Detailed programme and timetable to be announced in due course.

Evening gig £5.00, featuring Hollowbelly, Tinqui8 and BluesBeaten Redshaw, plus open mic.

I'm waiting for tickets to be printed, and as soon as these are ready I will be posting information for availability and payment.

On the day I will be needing some support in terms of leading workshops, doing seminar spots and general gophering - so I'll be drawing up a short list of volunteers. I already have a couple of the places filled, but if you do get involved, the deal will be that you will work during the day (10.00am- 5.30 pm approx), but get a free ticket for the evening gig (with no duties for the evening).
