Hello All,I just completed my first CBG. I picked up a bunch of boxes, figuring mistakes were bound to be made (and they were) and I might need to start over. I started with an Arturo Fuente papered box 9-1/4 X 9 X 1-1/2, a neck purchased online, a…Continue

I'm a music teacher and long time (long long time) guitar player and I've written a course specifically for beginners. It teaches slide and fingerpicking for a 3 string so if you want to learn about chords on a 4 string you'd want to look elsewhere.
I've had plenty of experience with beginner players of many different instruments, I know how clumsy it can feel at the beginning, I regularly look for new instruments to learn myself or I'll turn my guitar upside down and play left handed just to remind myself of what it feels like. I studied human movement and biomechanics for many years as well and I find this helps when teaching beginners who are struggling to learn new and sometimes complex movements.
I've come up with a really effective method that steps you through all the skills you need to be a competent player. You can see the Course Outline, grab your first Free Lesson or sign up for the free Newsletter at these links.
I've also got another site with mainly song lessons on it at www.playcigarboxguitar.com. Remember though in order to play songs you have to know how to play and that's where you need a structured, well-planned course of study.
Happy pickin'
Comment by Keith Stanford on May 4, 2013 at 2:21pm Don - There is a really good 'new' CBG training lessons done by an ozzie that I have found to be excellent for BEGINNERS. (Most of the other programs mentioned are also very good, but too advanced for me.) The ozzies name is Pat and here is his web site: http://www.learncigarboxguitar.com/
Lots of good FREE stuff on there also for those who don't want to spend the $.
Kind regards,

Comment by jamie bark on May 4, 2013 at 2:03pm Don- they all seem very good to me. Check out the "How to Play" tab, and see if one of them makes more sense to you. Kenny Lee goes over my head at times, but is excellent! I find I just gotta slow down...

Hello! I just bought a 3-string cbg last Saturday. What or who is the best teaching or teacher for cd,s video,s tabs etc. Thanks, Don
Comment by PJ Pilkington on April 25, 2013 at 8:05pm Watch out for fretting. So many videos I watched and cd's I bought make it sound so simple and it's not. There are many things not mentioned. Well I have learned a few things anyway.

Comment by Keith Stanford on April 21, 2013 at 9:12pm PJ - Send a message to Mordacai Bondurant here on CBNation and ask him to email you a picture of the neat little homemade gadget he made to straighten curved Fret Wires and also to insure both curve & straight Fret Wires stay in place on the ends.
As a matter of fact, it might make sense for you to just go ahead and pick up his GittyMan CBG Making Manual.
At only $14, it is a steal!
Get it at www.GittyMan.com

Comment by Jay Caughron on April 21, 2013 at 4:33pm That's what I use and so far have not had a problem even when using the curved fret wire from Grizzly.
Comment by PJ Pilkington on April 21, 2013 at 3:04pm Ok Thanks! I just bought a fret saw from Stewart Mac so hopefully that will solve my problem!
