Hello everybody, I'm new to this so please bear with me.  I say a video on youtube of someone playing "can't be satisfied" on a CBG and had to build one. I just have a couple of questions.I'm using a cohiba box. The lid touches the box only at the…Continue

Hello All,I just completed my first CBG. I picked up a bunch of boxes, figuring mistakes were bound to be made (and they were) and I might need to start over. I started with an Arturo Fuente papered box 9-1/4 X 9 X 1-1/2, a neck purchased online, a…Continue

There are quite a few fret saw ideas and links in the group http://www.cigarboxnation.com/group/specialtoolseitherboughtorhomemade

I was really happy with this inexpensive saw and mitre box combo - http://www.cigarboxnation.com/forum/topics/inexpesive-fret-saw-and-...

For the width, it's essential to have a saw that will cut a narrow kerf, .023" is about right, if it's wider the tang on the fretwire won't be gripped tight enough. You can get a proper saw for use with a specialist fret mitrebox with a depth stop, or fabricate your own depthstop..but I rely on a steady hand and a keen eye to get the slot depth right (although the experience of a few hundred fret jobs does help).

Marcus, take a look at the fretting video on my page here and see if that helps you at all...

I am in the middle of my first fret job and it seems no matter what I use to cut them I end up with the wrong width and depth. What do you all use to cut frets and adjust the depth. I'm open to all ideas...Peter

This is my salvaged body from my last project; I'm gonna do some more modding on it. The neck was crappily made so it warped and cracked; found out what I did wrong so I'm gonna make a new one. Its got some brass hinges, guitar strap buttons, a danelectro rosewood replacement bridge. I think it needs sound holes any ideas as to what shape/style?

I've built STUFF before, a little handy, hacker by nature. Haven't yet started mycbg but have all the parts. I don't want to use a cb though, I want something Different. Wife's into crafts, stores stuff in lots of tins, stole a Jack Black tin that looks cool, but don't know where to start. Hints?

I'm pretty much starting off, ive built 2 cbg's and practice does make perfect but i am still learning and still a beginner, i just started my own at home company to make and sell them, Insolitus Guitars, i hope to make unique and minimalist cbg's (of course how minimalist can they get lol)

Worn, multi-color look recipe:

- 1 paintbrush

- 3 or 4 "standard" oil based paint in contrast colors

- 1 candle

- sand paper (middle-grained)

Paint "the item" thoroughly, using one (just select one) paint

Wait till it dries

Doodle a bit using the candle - all over the freshly painted (dried!) surface

Paint it again, using a different color.

..

Repeat (ad libitum)

Give the paint time to dry.

Then sand "the item" - the paint adheres less at places where the thin coat of wax/stearine was put (the "candle doodles"). It will just fall off, flaking.

You may put a thin coat of transparent over it. Or just wax...

I did it once ("antique kitchen table"), it worked.

Credits: saw it once on British TV, something with "homemaking" and "DYI"
