I just got a new tool for my birthday and am very pleased. Its a 6"  jointer. I am now able to straighten out twisted and warped boards and make nice square stock for my necks from rough wood. The one I got is a Grizzly tools G0654 and I recommend if you need a jointer.

In looking at the warning on that precision screwdriver set below, what it actually says is not to insert the entire 6 piece precision set into penis. It does';t say anything at all about just using one.

The proper tool for the proper tool.

More fun with dial indicators.  This is model to test beam (neck, in our case) deflection vs beam length as predicted by http://www.engineersedge.com/beam_bending/beam_bending1.htm using a 1/4" x 3" x 24" red oak test beam.  Agrees very closely, to within 1 decimal point.

Interesting that reducing the length of stick-through-box neck by 3/4 of its length (such as Shane's Leadbaby) increases its resistance to bending by 2.5x, and halving it makes it 8x stiffer.  Easy way to eliminate a truss rod.

hi, i'm wondering if juju aka soundssogood would be kind enough to post some pics of the mk2 fretbender  he built and somes specs as to the size of the bearings and the approximate spacing. also the wheel size. i'd like to see how the back of the bender is made. thanks

This is something i enlisted the old man to make. A pair of deep throat calipers. Cost about £2 for the dial indicator second hand and then used scrap steel. Really good tool. I actually bought a proper pair and i prefer the home made ones, the dial indicator is a little more presice, only drawback being the pin has to be manually drawn up.
