Has anyone had any luck selling locally on craigslist?

Hey there,

Thought I would post this link to my auctions on Ebay...selling some of my stuff to make room and cash to fund my next project(s). You can see the other items listed by looking at this one and then clicking on "see other items"...cheers and thanks.

I use UPS because 1)no material price difference 2) $100 insurance built into the price 3)open when I am able to stop by (like MLK day) and 4) easy shipping tracking.

The only time I use USPS is for shipping out of the country.  UPS rapes you on the brokerage fees, USPS is often half the price.

Get yourself a UPS account.  You print your own labels, get billed monthly, and you can simply drop the package at any of their pickup points, or have them pick it up (for an additional fee).

Trouble is, the people at my post office are nice and the people at my UPS store are total a-holes.

Didn't know that about the USPS insurance claims, as I haven't had anything lost/damaged... yet. Looks like I should start shipping via UPS, tho.

USPS insurance is worthless, IMHO. When you make a claim, you need an "expert" to validate the value of the item, and if they do approve it, it takes up to a year to get paid. I'm not kidding. Good luck with one of a kind items like CBGs. I've been through it. UPS and FedEx include insurance with the shipping cost, and there are no hassles getting paid, and they are cheaper than the post office unless it's something very light.

I use the same U-Line boxes Madurobob is referring to. They are indeed the perfect size for most CBGs. I just pack mine in bubble wrap and bogus paper or newspaper and ship them via US Post Office. Normally $16-$30 after adding insurance. I like the idea of packing them with the rigid pink foam insulation sheeting. I may start doing that. Thanks for the tip, Madurobob!

I found a place that sold me a bundle of 25 boxes 36X10X6 that open along the length so its easy to lay a guitar in.  I think I paid about 1.00 each after a discount they offered (here is the link: http://www.uline.com/Product/Detail/S-18428/Corrugated-Boxes-200-Te...).  They are perfect for my CBGs.  Inside the box I use that pink foam insulation they sell in 4X8 sheets, 2 inches thick.   Since my guitars are generally about 2" thick that means I can have one layer of foam on either side of the guitar and it perfectly fills up the 6" depth of the box.  I Cut a piece to fit in the bottom of the box, cut a few small pieces to hold the guitar in place, then another piece to go on top - sometimes I need to modify the top one depending on the guitar.  The end result is super strong (perhaps overkill), but lightweight.  Just about anywhere in the contig US I can ship to via UPS for about $16.  A 4X8 sheet of 2" foam insulation costs about $35, but I get a good 10+ boxes out of it so its not too bad if you plan to ship several guitars.

Large box, priority mail, have not had one damaged yet. Make sure to buy the extra insurance just in case.
