It got the tip from a miniature train forum : http://www.nproject.org/nl/modelspoor-scenery/hout-verweren.html
Unfortunately it's in Dutch.
But this is how it works : You soak steel wool in vinegar and let rest for 4 days
and with this mixture you drench down all wood and hardware and when it's all dried out then it looks like a hundred years old :) . Mojo !!!!
Success !!

I use this method. It works very well, but you dont need to leave it rest for 4 days. 24 hours is more than enough. You can also add anything else steel to help with the process.
Word of warning though... test on a sample piece first! Vinegar turns oak black on contact, so be careful!
nice one... kitchen here i come...ha ha
Sounds cool, can we see a picture of the results?
Hey Michael, here's a picture .chrz.
I used white vinegar and cider vinegar had better results with the cider myself.... Nice profile pic by the way.... Dave
plane white vinegar will do the job ! success ! Chrz. WMP
I have what may be a silly question, but how long does it take for the smell to go away? Vinegar is rather pungent.
oh and has anyone tried this on cedar?
Took about a day for me it didn't really smell too bad when I put it on once it dries all the way it'll be fine....... Dave
