There are some basics on youtube. Ted Crocker on this forum makes killer custom pickups for cbg's and shares his knowledge with all of us.

wow building your own pickup can some one tell me where i can find out how to do it?

For the coils in my pickups I have used wire from old telephones. There are coils inside "old school" telephones which can be found from flea markets for almost free. I found the magnets from my childrens discarded toys.

I was able to get some nice long lengths of wire from those icicle sets.

Wade - Xmas light wire will work just fine, except most sets of lights are series wired [if they all go out when you pull one bulb, it's series wires] and so you would only be able to use the short segments of wire between bulbs

Thanks Jay Hey they look good! Thats pretty much what I'm looking for.I like the open hole. If you don't mind I might try a set. Thanks! Lenny

i get neck wood in poplar for forty cents apiece, from the saw mill, they start out as another pourpose though, yard sign stakes. they are 36 inches long and two inches wide and three quarters thick, they come in maple and oak also for about seventy five cents apiece. i bought fifty steaks for twenty dollars, and eight out of ten is straight enough for neck stock.

Free wood for necks- I 've heard some great suggestions - pallets, cut offs from cabinet shops. Two other sources I have found are old wooden drawers which supply me with nice long pieces(fronts are usually 3/4 and sides are 1/4 inch for fretboards. This is what I used for my bass. Another is hardwood flooring- I have a few pieces I'm going to try real soon.

A message from lenny purnell to all members of Low Budget Land on Cigar Box Nation! "what are some things you guys have used for bridges thanks lenny"

I have used lots of things, blocks of wood, screws, eyebolts, pre-made guitar bridges, ceramic rods, plastic rods, etc.

My tip for the day: you can make nifty clamps out of big scedule 40 pvc pipe. Just cut off about 1'' slices then slit one side.
