HI There,

I'm from Queensland Australia, I first heard about these CBG's 5 years ago , at the Umundi markets, I loved the deep south sound immediatley and thought it was a an old recording .....but came to find a stall where a guy was selling them. He had 3 .4 and 6 strings he had made. That sound has haunted for 5 years and now I have finsished my first build !! God bless google and everyone who offered their experience.

You can see it here http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3qHBV9OD8eY

Alll the best !!

Howdy.
I played regular guitar and a bit of banjo for a few years, and then stumbled across a CBG on youtube last week and now I'm hooked. My first build is going to be a padron 3 stringer fretless. The more I see on here the more I want to try. Thanks for this site and all the info.

Hi! Just joined CBN, but I'm currently working on my third cbg and the first one I've made with frets.  I'll be posting pictures soon.  I actually made the "fretwire" myself out of sheetmetal.  (One of my 'rules' is to spend very little on each build.)

I'm a CBG Nation newbie from north of Pittsburgh saying hello and Merry Christmas to everyone. I finished my first build last week and can't believe how good it sounds for a box that was holding drill bits in a garage! I love the idea of making music out of crap I have lying around my shop. Dig the site and enjoy the willingness of everyone to exchange ideas/info. My second build is a smaller electric 4 string and should be done soon. Pics to follow (if I can figure out how to post them!)

Hey,

I'm from Hungary and I built a cookie tin guitar out of an old Czechoslovakian guitar's neck that I broke off the guitar in quite a barbarous way and a cookie tin and a piece of locust tree originally intended to become some piece of furniture. I managed to put 5 strings on her tuned in open G and it is quite OK, with a funny metallic sound. Check it out (there is this version of Louisiana Blues I made with it, I've uploaded it this morning).

Hi,

I live in England and I've just finished building my first cigar box guitar ( although it is not a cigar box) and I'm about to start on a second with my Dad.  We have built 2 diddley bow things out of an old table leg and left over wood.

Hey Ben, I filed a slot for a piece of threaded round stock to sit in -- I'd bought a couple diameters (can't recall exactly: I think a 1/2" and a 1/4" and a 3/8" --- I cut the first nut from the 1/4" thinking I'd want a lowish action near the nut -- but Nope, I had to be too delicate with the slide --- I went toa bigger one and then the bridge bar felt too high, so I went a bit smaller and suddenly the thing just played great, sounded killer, and the intonation suddenly fell right into place overall...so I'd say treat this first one as a prototype (a much beloved prototype) and switch out the nut and bridge height in various ways until you hit a sweet spot. I'd say go pretty high on the action (if it's a fretless slide guitar) -- it allowed me to dig in a bit with the slide and not hit the neck (which with a low-budg piezo goes CLACK). I think each CBG needs to be finessed with the nut and bridge a bit since each CBG is unique even if you try to make them identical. For my new one I just measured the string hieght of my first one and cut a custom nut from 1/2" square bar stock...gonna be a crap shoot a bit, but will tweak the action once it's strung up...best of luck! Hello all a dirty Southerner to join the ranks, i have begun to build my cbg and am working my way through a few problems, first things first, iv been a musician for about 8 years and am also a cabinet maker so all the woody problems are easy enough and i look forward to helping everyone out when it comes to the ole timber tech, the problems lie in the the luthier and elecrtronics side of things so any help would be greatly appreciated. right problem 1 what is the ideal height for the nut to raise above the fretboard, been playin around with not cutting a groove for the nut as there is about 4mm space if the nut is on the same level/neck level?? there seems to be much chat on the forums about this subject but the yanks all use damned imperial inches and as im not ancient (sorry) i mostly dont no what they are on about n e help would be awesome
