Hi, i'm Barry. I just joined today. I must say i'm blown away by the site, and the opportunity to show my first two cigar box guitars. i am a professional gold and platinumsmith who loves music and guitars in particular, and after building a few guitars I decided to build a cigar box guitar along with my friend Rick, who plays on my videos. I love what I've seen so far and have been warmly welcomed to the community. i look forward to building more and seeing what others do.

Hi I'm Matt. Joined here a few weeks back. Been playing acoustic guitar for about 25 years and played a little blues but not much. Then came across a bloke in Birmingham, UK called Chicken Bone John who builds CBGs and I was completely blown away by the look, sound and how accessible the blues was with it. I am now the proud owner of a three string fretless cigar box guitar that I play at any given opportunity.

My name's Ryan. I'm living in Nashville, Tn right now, and enjoying every minute of it. Started a heavy blues band a few months ago called "the seventh sons" in order to understand/pay tribute to/bastardize the American tradition. Got it into my head to build me a new beast to lay down them tasty licks: "This Cigar Kills Fascists". Amazed and humbled by some of the great designs on here! Definitely inspired for guit number two!

Hi, my name is bob haulk and i'm very happy to have found this community. I've just built my first cbg, i got the idea from a video on youtube. My cbg sounds great and i'm totally hooked on building more. I look forward to learning all i can from the rest of you fellow builders. I love playing guitar and i must say the slide i can get from my cbg is just brilliant,id say it's what i've been looking for for years. Who'd have thunk such a simple idea as a cigar box could have made such a fine instrument.
I live in Scotland and so far i've not come across anyone who's ever heard of cbg's so when i whip mine out folks are stunned and when you start playing, wow, folks want you to build them one. I tell 'em about this site and then go build one themselves.
Cheers from the deserts of Fife, Scotland (i live just down the road from where Johnny cash's descendants hail from)

i want to thank all of you. i found a lot of great info on here after getting bit by cbg bug. i'm happy w\my first attempt. not too shabby. i tried to keep it as primitive as possible. i did buy machine heads (pawn shop, $1/piece!!) and strings (overpriced guitar shop). the next one (or dozen) i make will definitely get more complicated.

this one plays better than i expected. even my shoddy fret job is pretty close to true. i have no tools. made this with a wood file, screwdriver, drill, and a dull hacksaw. i strung it before i fretted and plotted each tone out with an online tuner by ear. also used one of those fret calculators online where you input the nut-to-bridge distance.

as you guys know, there are boatload of variables on these. i didn't glue my lid down just yet. just used some small brass screws. i think i want to file down the neck so that only about an inch on either end is glued to the lid. i have a bunch of ideas on how to counter the tension some but i'm not sure which i'll try. or if i'll just leave it.

in any event, thanks again for all the info.

Hey guys! I'm new to cbg's, but not anywhere near being new to music. As far as strings go, I play upright and electric bass, guitar, and a little fiddle, banjo, madolin. I'd like to build a cbg. Any advice on getting started?

Hello everyone! My real name is Gábor Vajda and I am from Hungary. As you may tell I am a Van Halen fan and I own guitars like a Kramer Baretta and an Explorer-shaped no-name guitar that I've converted to a black&white version of the infamous 'Shark' guitar. I also had another project guitar - a cheap but great quality - Strat-copy that started out as an Yngwie Malmsteen-project with a scalloped neck then I painted it up as the 'Frankenstein'. It could not be tuned well or anything, it was for the sake of the project. After I gave the pickups and springs to friends, I had it lying around for literally years. After accidentally stumbled upon Seasick Steve I realized I could easily convert it to a diddley bow as I was really into slide guitar stuff as well. Thus I created a Van Halen and Malmsteen look-a-like one string guitar I spend great time with.

Hey there CigarboxNation,
If you couldn't tell, my names Nate. I'm brand new to CBGs and I've never really known too much about handy work, but I've always been good at doing projects and things when I've tried. The primary reason I've joined is to get a physics project out of the way, and the guys at my local cigar shop told me this is the place to be. I'll be updating pictures of my current project as I finish up and I'm open to any advice you guys have for me.
