Howdy - Chuck Meyer from Illinois. Heard my first CBG about a year ago and was floored. Amazing sound! I had to build one. It wasn't until a few months ago, I got the necessities together and built my first. I've never played guitar so now I'm learning how and enjoying every minute. By fluke (I'm no woodworker), it sounds great. CBG #2 is almost complete, and I'm ciphering out what went wrong with my Noisy Cricket build, but I'm getting there and loving every minute. Thanks Shane, for CBN.

Hey Hey, I'm Kace from Goodyear AZ originally Chicago looking to soak up all the info i can. Planning my first build, been playing guitar for a while but believe this is what i've always been looking for as far as sound and the ability to build my own instrument!

HI, I'm from Bellflower, one of the many suburbs of Los Angeles. I started my first CBG a couple of weeks ago after watching an episode of Make TV on PBS. Since then I decided to do some research and discovered Cigar Box Nation. Other then the CBG I've also started building a cookie tin banjo thing. Right now both instruments are strung up with fishing line and use eye bolts for the tuners. This is just temporary though. Both are simple three strings and fretless. Once I get comfortable with what I'm doing I'm sure I'll get more fancy. My tates in music ranges from classic rock, Delta blues and a little folk music and even celtic music. Other then the guitar I've recently started messing around with an autoharp I aquired from a yard sale.

hi im lori from milw,wi..both my husband & i have played in various bands for many yrs.we have 2 young girls & dont get out much anymore so we stay home & make stuff ..he makes CBGs & kalimbas &i play washboard, tap, spoons etc..realized serious potential for creating percussion inturments out of non traditional objects when my drumkit broke & i fixed it w/ car parts...i was hooked & basically ended up turning my garage into a gigantic precussion insturment...now im going for something a bit more portable to accompany the cbgs....im currently in the brainstorming phase..have many ideas..but havent tried to build anything yet..im loving this site & looking forward to meeting other like minded people.

Hi, my name is Stan, and I live in central Ma. I've been playing guitar for 35 yrs. I attended Berklee College of Music. I played in various rock bands from the time I was a teenager 'til I turned thirty. I wrote alot of music and tried to make a living at it in every way I could imagine, but when I turned 30 I felt it was time to follow a different path. I'm 48 now and I want to give it another shot, sort of.....I can't devote all my energies to it because i have 3 kids. A long story but I wanted to learn to repair and/or build guitars, it was then that I cam across cigar box guitars and this website. I'm looking forward to building the first one.

Bienvenue, oldharp!

Most of us here are self-taught (autodidact) both for playing as well as building. I am just beginning to learn an American (18th-19th century) version of solfege using only four names--fa sol la and mi.

Please look at the plans section for building a Cigar Box Guitar with three strings (cordes). There may be information there on installing a piezo.

Also, please be sure look at the CBG France group in Cigar Box Nation--most of the communication is in French. If they can't help you, please email me and I will do my best to help.

A bientot!

Willie

I live in France in Lyon (the food is very good), I am restoring full of junk and I am a player of harmonica and guitar, autodidact I know absolutely solfege!!
it is long I look at this very good site, I use google translate because my English is very bad, I wish I joined the group in learning to make a guitar box 3 cords with a sound installation (electric) with a piezo (type phone), why I need some simple diagrams with details of assembly ....
then advance to thank you for all your knowledge and your home

I just finished my first build.Never played guitar in my life and a friend at work who knows guitars said it turned out pretty good and it actually plays when plugged into an amp.It has a few flaws but I can still learn to play on it and actually turned out to be a better lap guitar than an upright. All in all building it has been a learning curve for me showing me what to do next time and what not to do.

Oops, I'm obviously sending notes all over the place when I was just trying to 'introduce myself'. Haven't quite figured out the site yet. Just digging the CBG experience. Have only built one and I'm hooked.
