I built my first CBG three or four weeks ago. I built it as a gift for a fellow firefighter who is retiring. I have played the crap out of it. So as the time neared to give it away, you guessed it , I had to build another one :-)) I have stumbled into a new found passion now ! I am about to start my third one. All my friends and family are amazed that you can make music with such a simple instrument. Anyway I was surfing the net trying to get advice on my second build and chicken bone John sent me here. So let the fun begin :-)

Pleased to hear you enjoy the challenge of making such an indidual instrument. keep up the good work and good luck with any career that evloves from it.

Our youngest son has lived in Olds Alberta for 2 yrs , where are you?

Hey everyone! Just thought I'd introduce myself here. My name is Jenna. I am a young musician and I'm currently working on my first cigar box guitar build (picture below). I've wanted to build one for a long time, and I'm really happy with how it's coming along. I'm very interested in becoming a luthier at some point in the future, so starting off by building some of my own instruments seemed like a great place to start. I recently purchased Mike Orr's book "Handmade Music Factory" (beautiful book!) and I can't wait to build something using his instructions. I think I'm going to try making a Diddley Bow next! I love the level of creativity, ingenuity and resourcefulness this type of project demands. I can tell I'm hooked now....

Greetings from Canada!

Greetings to all! I have recently joined CBNation and look forward to gleening as much from this communtiy as possible in order to become a better crafter. Below I have posted images of my first and second build, respectively. Both were fun to make and the second is even more fun to play. If, in the future, I have any more leaning-against-the-house pictures to post of different projects I will do so for the amusement of the masses :). Be well!

Hi all. I've been staliking this site for a while now, so I thought I'd say 'areet' from Lancashire in the North West UK. I got into CBG's after a mate of mine told me about them and I've been hooked ever since. I've only made two CBG's and an amp so far but just ordered a load of boxes from cigar box deals and itching to get stuck in! I'll try and upload a couple of pics on here.

^ That's 'Lily' after my baby daughter and my 'bullet-box' amp.

^The amp is an old ammo box given to me by my grandad. The guts are from a Marshall ms-4 battery amp and the speakers and grilles are from a hifi stereo my elder daughter managed to destroy. (it's LOUD!)

My friends wife asked me to make a CBG for his fathers day present (no pressure) the bone bridge is from some bone my wife had collected (she's Pagan...) This one took ages, but was a real good learning experience, especially the frets which were marked out using a slide and a clip-on tuner. Seems to work anyway. :)

^And the two together.

Anyway, thought I'd say hi and would welcome any constructive criticism for the builds. These are my first ever music instrument projects and I'm pretty much at square one. Any pointers gratefully received. Rob.

Hi Guys and Gals  Just  a thank you for all the  positive comments about my first build, builds 2&3 underway! now all I need to do is to learn to play the things lol

Hi ya'll!

I seem to have mucked up and sent a message to the group instead of just posting... Oh well.

Yet another new guy to the art of the cigar box. Just finished my first project - made from an old gift box of Cuervo Tequila. Will post some pics and video/sound clips as soon as possible. Just wanted to say hi in the meantime.

It's warm up in old Duluth as well, but not quite a blister. Right by the lake it's about 72 degrees f. Up at my summer workshop/garden it's almost 90. I stayed by the lake yesterday and our group had music by a bon fire on Park Point last night. One of our song circle lives right on the big lake on Park Point. I'm into iced coffee. That's close enough to snow for now... Happy 4th of July!

Sure sounds like one hell of a week you guys had up there. Happy to hear things are almost getting back to normal.

It rained during that whole deal down here in the cities but nothing like that. Now  it's just hotter than blue blazes and sounds like that's going to continue through the end of the week.

Almost makes a guy want the snow back. Almost being the operative word in that statement ;)
