Comment by Blind Lemon Cello on April 26, 2013 at 5:58pm My first experience with an LM386 is very positive. I bought an assembled module on ebay for 3$ & it can drive my Buskin' Blaster amp (see topic above for pics) with 2 8" speakers quite nicely, add a pedal & it screams!! Not the same as building your own, but for this price it was worth the shot. Ebay link.....

Comment by Scott aka Farmer Ted on April 2, 2013 at 7:57am To Loco...You don't need to install a 3.5mm for the iPod...all you need is a 3.5mm to 1/4" adapter and the 3.5mm patch cord for the iPod. I use one for my cbg amps so I can use it to play music on a cbg amp while working in my shop.
Comment by Cigarbox Triplestrings on April 2, 2013 at 4:23am I'm pretty happy with the MAH5 circuit board from Guitar Fuel http://www.guitarfuel.com/ now that I have discovered the problem I was having. Problem was that the battery terminals are not particularly robust, and once I had them connecting to the 9V battery securely....no more problem. These circuit boards really pack a punch, and support 240 V through a transformer, MP3 connectivity plus headphone socket as well as all their other goodies. Highly recommend them.
Comment by Scott aka Farmer Ted on March 23, 2013 at 7:12am better to use an 8 ohm speaker or two 4 ohms wired to create an 8 ohm load

Has anyone built a cigar box amp using the MAH5 circuit board?
I've just finished my second build using the MAH5 board, and I find that from the "Blues" setting through to the "Heavy metal" setting, I get quite bad interference/hum etc if I turn the volume up above 3rd.
Is this normal or not?
I bought my speakers (4" 8ohm 5watt) seperately, and just wondring if they might be the problem.
Cheers

It was fun to build this from parts that I had laying around. I just had to buy the pots and the jacks. I have a schematic here for a simple distortion circuit with a 2N3904 transistor. I know I have those here as well as the 1N4148 diodes you mentioned. So I may try that one too.
I did not see your JFET preamp circuit here. If it is not too complicated I could give it a go. It has been quite a while since I have melted this much solder.
Have fun.
