Here I am diving into a cabinet shop dumpster......found more wood than you can shake a stick at!

My new jam cave furnished from the dumpster. 4 really nice old wooden chairs, a rug, divider screen and granite slabs for coasters, all plucked from a house rehab dumpster. I steam cleaned everything to make sure I did not bring home anything bad.

Cheap lumber and hardware; Go to your local Habitat for Humanity Store for screws, nuts, bolts, and lumber for dirt cheap! Bought a waterbed frame for $1.50. Enough 2X6 lumber for 6 Diddley Bows. And, it's already stained. Lots of other cool gadgets, too.

I finally finished up my MacGyver contest entry.  I didn't get it finished in time because I was trying to build it with a minimum of tools and all salvaged materials.  So I was doing the soldering with matches and trying to build a tuner out of parts from an old porch light.  Well, it didn't work out.  It sat for a few months and now I've finally decided to just finish it up.

It has a motorcycle headlight for the body.  The neck is a piece of electrical conduit which I bent using the braces in the rafters of my basement. I hammered one end square so I could hammer it through the square holes in the headlight.  The "soundboard" is the bottom of a perkins cookie tin which is held in the headlight ring with scrap pieces of wood which are arranged in such a way that the pressure of them against each other and the headlight ring holds everything together.  I gave up on building my own tuner, pounded the end flat and installed a tuning machine with a couple sheet metal screws.  That was the first I used an electric tool (a drill), up until that point it had been build entirely with common hand tools (hacksaw, hammer, knife).  I also gave up on using the microphone from a cellphone as the pickup after the tiny wires broke and just glued a piezo to the "soundboard." Aside from the 2 screws that hold the tuner on, there is one screw that holds the headlight ring in place.

Constructed a one string base diddly bow out of part of a broom handle some scrap wood and a coffee can. I used eye bolts for both the nut and to anchor the string at the bridge. The tunig gear is recycled from a 3 inline tuning gear where the other gears had broke. I taped a piezo to the side of the can and tried it out. Sounds good. I should mention I used the low E string of a medium acoustic guitar set for this, but have it tuned up to an A right now.

Using found objects is what makes this building an art...I build almost exclusively with repurposed materials.I found these frier strainer things at the goodwill store for a dollar.I dissasembled two of them,to use as tailpieces  ... I got enough to use them on about 30 guitars.
