Comment by Diane in Chicago on July 29, 2012 at 12:19am Girly? Because of the skull tuners? True, most of the girls I know love that sort of thing.
Well done, even if the kid was unimpressed. Take it back if he doesn't play it and give it to some other kid.
Comment by wormil on July 28, 2012 at 3:57pm Good looking stick but a bit girly for a boy.

That'll get his attention,
Comment by Dinkydoo Magoo on July 28, 2012 at 2:27pm Welp. So inspired singularly by Diane in Chicago I built a wee gitty that is diatonically fretted on an 18 inch scale. For giggles and again inspired bythe aforementioned Chicagoan I used a water based colored stain on the neck for a little adventure. Now, I built this for my satisfaction and for something different on my third build but I also built this for my girlfriend's ten year old son who literally does nothing but game on his XBox if given his druthers (no exagerration). Upon presentation of this sweet sounding piece of my blood, sweat and tears (a bit of an exagerration) I received a "Thanks" without even a look away from the screen upon which he watched his video game. Perfect. Nonetheless, I am pleased with the finished product and it sounds great.
Comment by Marcus P. Clarke on July 20, 2012 at 8:06am I finally settled on med/med fret wires for most everything. I just finished a Cigar Box Dulcimer / strummer and these worked just fine.
Comment by wormil on July 20, 2012 at 3:37am What size fret wire are you guys using for strumstick type instruments? I'm reading that narrow/medium (like StewMac 147) is common on dulcimers but what about strummers? Should I go with a medium/medium instead?
Comment by wormil on July 15, 2012 at 3:26pm CBG can have diatonic (dulcimer) or chromatic (eg: guitars) fretting and can be tuned to standard, open, major, minor or anything else. Scales can vary as much as any chordophone from soprano to bass. What they all have in common is the cigar box body, beyond that they can represent a variety of instruments from ukuleles, guitars, strumsticks, mandolins, dulcimers, etc.
Comment by Marcus P. Clarke on July 15, 2012 at 9:42am I have a couple of questions. What is the difference between a mountain dulcimer and a 3 string CBG other than the diatonic fret board scale and tunings. What is the scale for a 3 string CBG dulcimer in the minor scale, which I love the sound of. I bought a used mountain dulcimer and can't get used to playing sitting on my lap. I suppose the strumming is my problem and have always used finger picking and playing different instruments in the guitar type fashion.
