Comment by John Rivers 4 hours ago I guess I should have asked first, but I order some of those fret markers from Jockomo last night...was wondering if anyone else has used them and what they thought of them
Thanks John
Very nice work Mark - and also many thanks for your support of the veterans!
Comment by Mark Kortuem yesterday I made one with an apple gourd. It was about 8". I did a dado on the bowl with the table saw and made it a neck through. I planed down a piece of pine board to an eighth inch for the top. It's the front one in the photo. As for the other two, one has bent wood sides and the other is made cigar box style although it's not a cigar box. I donated these three to the veterans hospital music therapy department in St. Paul.

Comment by John Rivers yesterday Once again you guys have cleared up the confusion with clear and concise answers...it is much appreciated
Comment by Ellwood T. Bear yesterday Here is a PDF file for building CBG, You will find this very helpful in your builds:
I cut a 1/4" (+/-) deep "relief" in the neck for the length of the box top. The top of the box does not touch the neck at all. I do it the same with thru neck and non thru neck builds. Any bracing is attached to the ends of the box and the neck is screwed to the braces. If I have any pics I will send them.
Comment by Thomas Petry yesterday What HarleyTodd said.
Comment by HarleyTodd yesterday I think you get more and better sound acoustically if you have a small (1/8") gap between the part of the neck that is in the box and the box lid. This lets the lid free to "vibrate" with the bridge. my box lid only touches my neck for about 1 inch at the area it enters box and exits for purposes of mounting and support/strength.
Comment by John Rivers yesterday Oh I am adding a fret board so that brings the neck up to the top of the box on the outside without any inside sanding .....So if I wanted to I would not have to sand any of the neck for the inside to make it the same level as the top of the box (except for the pick up of course).....should I sand it anyway for sound/tone purposes, or not.
