Comment by Tony Brown on Friday HELP
Excuse my ignorance but I have a (probably silly) question.
On my 8th build now of normal CBGs. My local music/guitar shop is selling them for me at a 20% commission. He also gives me bits and pieces that are very useful. Today he gave me three guitar necks, fully fretted etc.
Question how do I fix 'em to a Cigar Box ?????
Comment by MBliss on Friday One more tip for Lennox:
Often in softer woods that are sometimes used on CBG builds, even with the proper or thin saw blade, the frets dont hold really well. I have had some luck with carefully glueing the slot, installing the frets and clamping up with cauls for about 24 hrs.
There are also tools and methods for "exagerating" the tang of the fret that may help in some situations. Also some wire has a more pronounced tang to begin with.
Last thing, even frets that fit pretty snug can be easily knocked loose when trimming and filing the ends. Use caution when filing, dont be too aggressive and work at angles toward the fingerboard as much as possible.
Hope that helps!
Hello everyone! Been a while!
Comment by Jim Dickison on Friday +1 on that Harbor Freight Japanese flush cut saw. Perfect for fret slots. Buy 2... you'll find a million other uses for it!
Thanks Wormil
Comment by wormil on Friday Oops, missed all the replies. Lennox, the $7 flush cut saw from Harbor Freight is the right size for fret slots.
Comment by wormil on Friday Lennox, you can glue them. What size saw did you use to cut the fret slots?
Comment by John Rivers on Friday Thanks Thomas and Ellwood
