I have a question regarding building SC pups. Should all the magnets all be the same length? I ordered a set of Alnico magnets and they sent a variety of lengths even though they were specifically advertised for guitar pickups. What say ye folks? Thanks.
Silicone did the trick, but you knew that already... this quiet cbg sounds amazing plugged in.
Best way is to experiment...Find the best way for you....I like liquid nail myself...
Thanks, C.B.
An addendum to my previous post... "as much direct string pressure as possible"... but I do not recommend using them as the actual saddle. They may hold up for a while but they are not built to have the strings directly touching them.
For more info on rod piezos, check out this article on cbgity.com: http://www.cbgitty.com/?p=47
The rod piezos respond best when they are exposed to as much direct string pressure as possible. While you can get some sound gluing them inside the box like a disk, much better results are obtained if you build them into your bridge. The best results are obtained if you route a slot for the piezo to rest in and then have some sort of saddle on top of it, whether bone, brass or wood, so that the string pressure is directly transmitted to the piezo. This is how they are designed to be used, in the saddle of a standard acoustic guitar. Achieving this result is definitely more effort than just slapping a disk onto a box lid with hot glue.
I mostly use the rod piezos and simply integrate them into the bridge. As for the discs, I have had pretty good luck just embedding the piezos into the bridge as well. I just make a laminated wood-n-piezo sandwich, and glue/clamp the the hell out of it. Then I file a slot along the top and use pretty much anything I want as a saddle.
