tuner placement and spacing on headstock?

i am on my second build and i am coming along faily smoothly. i've got my neck shaped and my tail piece shaped and finished so now i am on to the headstock. problem is that i want to put machine tuners in but don't have any to reference the size shape and spacing before i start removing wood and shaping. i don't want to get too far down the road and find out that i screwed it up and have to use eyebolts again. so i was wondering if anyone had any measurements of generic tuner sizes so i could keep the ball rollng till i get to the guitar shop and pick them up.

I have made cardboard templates of the headstock and worked out the spacing on that, rather than using the finished piece.

Using cardboard templates is great because you can keep a record of all your different headstock shapes, 2 plus 2, 4 inline, etc. I've got a little library of them going now and it saves a lot of time.
