Building my first 3 string which strings should i use steel or nylon, also ? which ones ( A E D B ) ?

I use 4D, 3G, 2B but others are possible too ( 5A, 4D, 3G or 5A, 3G, 2B ).
I don´t know if anybody use 6E or 1E strings. 6E is very thick so tension is very big to neck and tuning machines.
And 1E is thin, so it might be hard to tuning different tunings, it´s going broke easily.

I have changed my strings so many times trying to get an easy open tuning that sounds good to me. I would not paint myself into a corner with strings. I have found that the 4-3-2...D-G-b has a good blues sound in GDg tuning. I also like the low 3 strings in open D tuning D A# d sounds low and gritty with the slide. This early in our building just mess around ensuring your nut to bridge is right. Just saying...Peter.
Permalink Reply by Fred Railsback on November 22, 2011 at 12:30pm Broken strings seem to be a way of life for me now that I have 2cbg's. I bought some bulk Rogue (cheap Chinese Fender) on Amazon. Now I am much more brave in attempting different tunings. This is more fun than anything.
