Thanks. I thought about the zero fret but too late for this build. Will use the bone for the nut. I did make a new bridge this evening though using the zero method. Using bone for the guide.

What size do you use for your zero Jumbo or super jumbo?

I often use the post from a pop rivet.  Works great.

So, once I glue in the block of wood, I saw the slot at the joint between the additional piece of wood and the existing fingerboard?

I bought the neck which came fretted (long story). This would be the proper position to keep the existing frets in tune.

put it wherever it needs to be to be the correct distance from the 12th fret, and double that distance to your bridge, but check the dimension to the 1st fret as well, also, if you haven't glued your block of wood in yet, it might be worthwhile taking a little bit more off the fretboard so your new nut slot is not exactly on the joint where you've glued the new block in
