yet to try steaming, so many methods so little time! I like the masonite idea though, seems Harrison W can make it work pretty damn well!

What I did was soak the wood in hot water for about an hour then formed it around a jog I made. I did it this way only because it's basswood and im starting to figureout how to properly bend wood. I will next build a forming jog and buy a heat blanket for nicer more expensive wood like my flamed curly maple I have waiting for my next build.

vvvvv nice lookin uke! that stuff need steaming to bend or do you just jig and fix it? Loco - might have to give the ply a shot, I used a steel soundboard on my last one which sounded sweet but was hard work!

i've used masonite and i think it sounds pretty good http://www.cigarboxnation.com/video/ghettolele

@ Old Fingers Green, I might have some on my profile but ill try and up load some new ones as I have gotten a lot better since I last recorded and upload on this site. Ply tops is what I went with because that was what was available at a low cost. I bought a sheet from Michaels craft store. Birch ply.

Loco - do you have any recordings of your builds with plywood tops? I've avoided plywood as i thought it might impair tone but if it sounds good i might give it a go!

@Kalmario, I guess the pic is a little misleading, i used a drill bit to drill holes that would outline the size i needed. then used the knife to cut it out. worked perfectly, i saw it done on a youtube video. as for bracing I dont use bracing on it as its a plywood top. I haven't had an issue with my other builds using the same type top. Either way its all a prototype so I hope it sounds good. I want to finish this so I can start my 6 string CBG I want to build. Im thinking about having Careless John burn a box for me. He makes some beautiful boxes.

@chris and @mel, nice looking ukes/prototypes.  @loco looks pretty cool so far, what sort of bracing are you using and how thick is the sound board?  craft knives are the easiest way to make pre amp holes for sure.

Well I finally got my EQ-7475R preamp in the mail! .. it is not as heavy as i thought given Kalmario's response to my question about weight. I have already cut the hole for it on my build. Im not building a traditional CBU this time around. I have given my skills a challenge and trying to build a figure 8 body baritone uke..I would still like to share it with you fellow CBU's anyways..here are a few pics of my build thus far...
