Alls quiet here but I thought I might stir things up with a question. Does anyone know or know where to find the diameter of fiddle strings. I have been using fishing successfully for sometime now.…Continue

One of the most challenging things for me was getting a good angle on the neck. It's not like a regular CBG. You need a really good angle on the strings. Here's the simplest solution I could come up…Continue

Hi everyone, I'm new to CB instruments but I've been playing guitar/banjo and fiddle for years. I was curious is anyone has built anything similar to the "Rawhide Violin", offered in the free plans section. I like the simplicity of the design, and I already have all the parts but I want to know how it plays before I start building it up. I wouldn't be using rawhide- just a well-built and similarly-sized cigar box- but everything else is about the same.
It also got me thinking about an unorthodox instrument- something that could be both bowed and plucked.
I was thinking that if I carved the bridge somewhere between curved and flat (the way bluegrass fiddlers often do) and kept the long, cello-like fingerboard that the "rawhide violin" plans suggest, the instrument might be playable both bowed like a cello/rebab/stick fiddle and plucked like a banjo or CBG.
Has anyone done something like this before? Any suggestions on making it work?
Thanks
